reflections on the present and future. The celebrations for the 850th anniversary
of the University of Modena’s founding provided the perfect opportunity to host
this initiative, which took place on October 23, 2024, in the splendid setting of
the Collegio San Carlo—where Ramazzini taught in the early years of his career
before becoming a respected professor at the renowned universities of Modena
            and Padua.

The participation of scholars, citizens, and medical students was a source of

great satisfaction, both in person in the evocative Church of San Carlo and onli-
ne, thanks to the live broadcast on the University of Modena’s YouTube channel
and the availability of the event’s recording.

Our goal is to establish this event as an annual tradition, in synergy with the
“Ramazzini Days” held in Carpi by the Collegium Ramazzini, which we warmly
thank—along with all the sponsoring institutions—for their invaluable support
of the initiative. In addition to the Collegium Ramazzini, we wish to express our
heartfelt gratitude to the numerous sponsoring entities: the Emilia-Romagna
Region, the Municipality of Modena, the Local Health Authority (AUSL) of Mode-
na, the Italian Society of Occupational Medicine, the Lorenzini Foundation, the

International Society of Doctors for the Environment, and the Giardini Margherita
            Outpatient Clinics in Bologna.
Special thanks go to the institutional authorities who actively participated in

the event: the Rector, Prof. Carlo Porro; the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of
Modena, Francesca Maletti; and the Director of the Department of Public Health
of the AUSL of Modena, Dr. Davide Ferrari. We are deeply grateful to all the spe-
akers who, through their contributions, were able to bring the lessons of history
into contemporary age, making them vibrant and relevant for the future as well.

A particular appreciation goes to Maestra Antonella Coppi and the vocal and
instrumental Ensemble of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, under her
direction, for the splendid period music from the Ramazzini era that masterfully
opened the event and is still available in the audio-video recording.

The historical legacy linked to Ramazzini offers endless and highly relevant
